Mexican Community Minnesota

Who We Are

Mexican Community MN is a grassroots, volunteer-led mutual aid collective based in St. Paul. We are comprised of young trans Mexicans who came together in response to uplift the needs of our community.

As members of both the Mexican and trans communities, we understand what it means to live at the intersection of fear, discrimination, and economic vulnerability.

Why We Organize

When recent enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement began destabilizing families in our neighborhoods, we saw parents detained, incomes disappear overnight, and children left in uncertainty. We could not stand by and watch our community face homelessness alone.

Systemic Barriers We Address

Our community has long faced systemic barriers:

When enforcement actions intensify, these vulnerabilities multiply. Families lose primary earners. Tenants fall behind on rent within weeks. Children experience trauma that impacts their safety, education, and emotional wellbeing.

Our Commitment

As young trans leaders, we recognize how LGBTQ+ immigrants often face additional isolation and lack of culturally competent support. We organize to ensure no one is left navigating crisis alone.

Our work is led by Maria Garcia, RN — a registered nurse with over 11 years of experience in clinical practice, nursing education, and community health advocacy.
